Greetings Knights of the Gridiron!     Please join us at the final Knights of the Gridiron luncheon in the regular season tomorrow, Thursday (10/28) at The Golden Corral at noon.  Highlights: * Coach Leslie will provide a recap from last week’s victory versus Nampa   *Lee will discuss the game plan for our next home game versus Kuna (Senior Night) and present a couple of players.

-       Meet a special guest

-       We will also have our usual drawing for select Knights gear, not available in retail stores!

The Golden Corral is located just North of Boise Towne Square and West of REI at 8460 W. Emerald Street. Cost is $15.00 per person.  All are welcomed, please come out and support our program, players and coaches.

Other News:

-       The grill will be hot for another tailgater by 5 pm on Friday.  Bring something to share and come join us.

-       BY POPULAR DEMAND we will be extending the Knight’s of the Gridiron luncheon schedule in to the post season.

Watch for an e-mail, but we will have a luncheon before every playoff game.

-       The McCarthy’s will have their grill at BK and hot for tailgating for every home game during the post season as well.  Plan to join.

You are invited  to attend the Black and Gold Scrimmage on Saturday August 28th at 5 p.m.  at Nick Ysursa Field on Bishop Kelly campus. A delicious Tri-tip dinner is being offered following the scrimmage.

The scrimmage ends the preseason practice and is the team’s final tune up for our season opener against Minico High School on September 3rd.  There is no cost to attend the scrimmage which starts at 5 p.m. and will last 1.5 to 2 hours.

Everyone is welcomed to attend a grilled tri-tip dinner immediately following the game.  The cost for dinner is $5 per person or $20 per family including sides and drinks.  Our own Bryan Smith and friends will be the grill masters.  Any proceeds go to support the football program.  Come join our alumni, parents, families, friends, and the team.  Meet and mingle and show your Kelly pride. We hope to see you there.

But the question [...]]]> Many years ago the BK school yearbook, The Kelligian, included a brief biography of its namesake, Bishop Edward Kelly. It appears to have been reprinted from another source, and it is published here for your reading pleasure.

Bishop Kelly High School will perpetuate the memory of one of Idaho’s best known religious leaders – the late Bishop Edward Joseph Kelly.

Bishop Kelly, the third Bishop of the Diocese of Boise, was born in the Dalles, Oregon, February 26, 1890. He attended St. Mary’s Academy, The Dalles. In 1907 he entered St. Patrick’s Seminary, Menlo Park, California, then went to Rome to study at the North American College. Bishop Kelly was ordained June 2, 1917 in Rome by Cardinal Pompili.
At the time of his Consecration as Bishop he was among the youngest Bishops in the world and the first native westerner to be consecrated. The Bishop’s work took him into a number of fields. He promoted the teaching of religion by instituting the Correspondence course, establishing the summer institutes for Sisters, and by supervising and writing texts for religion. The summer vacation schools, the high school De Sales Club, and the regular weekly instruction of children are among the religious education programs promoted by him.
Bishop Kelly’s desire to provide adequate and devotional places of worship for the people of the diocese shows itself in the thirty-five churches and missions which were constructed during his administration.
Bishop Kelly’s life of dedication to the diocese came to and end April 21, 1956, as he was preparing to offer Mass. Services were held in St. John’s Cathedral, April 26, 1956.

Actually, Bokan is entering his senior season [...]]]> Ryan Bokan ’07 left his mark at Bishop Kelly as a 4-sport athlete (football, track, swimming, and basketball) and an outstanding scholar.  And it would appear he’s now onto a new sport — surfing.

Actually, Bokan is entering his senior season as point guard for the Case Western (Cleveland, OH) Spartans basketball squad. Bokan is coming off a knee injury, and after months of hard work under the watchful eye of a dedicated team of health professionals he is competing for a spot in the starting lineup. Bokan and his CW teammates are currently  in Brazil for a pre-season basketball tour, and Ryan is showing is natural athleticism — this time in the South Atlantic!

Notes:  Minico owns a [...]]]> Bishop Kelly kicks off its 47th season of football on Friday, September 3, with a non-conference away game against the Minico Spartans.  The Knights home opener will be one week later against Boise High on Sept. 10.

Notes:  Minico owns a 4-5 series record advantage over BK…The opening game is listed at IdahoSports.com as a live webcast.  It can also be heard on KGEM Radio 1140 AM…Minico’s home field is in Rupert, which is the middle name of BK radio announcer David R. Skinner…The only time BK ever lost to a Boise Public Schools team in football was 1970 against Boise High. BK is now 2-1 all time vs. the Braves, and 9-1 all time vs. Boise Public Schools teams…The Knights have won 17 in a row against Middleton, 11 straight against Emmett…Combined all-time record of 142-52-1 against this year’s nine opponents…Homecoming is Oct. 1st…Bishop Kelly’s overall record for 46 seasons is 325-136-2, winning percentage of .702.
