HAWK LOVE: Cody Awarded “Buffalo Heart” on Senior Day in Boulder; Cody-Kyle Connect; Buffs Win Again
Lots of good stuff happening today for the Bishop Kelly football family, both in Boise and in Boulder. BKFOOTBALL.COM is pleased to share with its readers this news of a “first” for Bishop Kelly football: A BK alum playing quarterback for a college football team completed a pass to a fellow BK alum during a college football game. This historic occasion took place on Saturday, Nov. 20, in Boulder, Colo., at roughly the same time BK was playing Blackfoot at Bronco Stadium for the state championship.

The pitch-and-catch came with 12:15 remaining in the 2nd quarter of the Colorado vs. Kansas State game. Senior QB Cody Hawkins (BK ’06) completed an 8-yard pass to WR Kyle Cefalo (BK ’07), one of 13 completions for young Hawk today. Buffs won. Knights won. All is right with the world.

Today was Senior Day at Folsom Field in Boulder where CU played K-State and much focus was on Coach Dan Hawkins’ participation as a parent. Well, it’s more about family with this crew and Dan was proud Papa in the pregame. Up next for Cody Hawkins is a trip to Lincoln to play Nebraska in his collegiate finale [or maybe they upset Nebraska, become bowl eligible and somehow end up in the H-Bowl...], and maybe football in Europe.
Cody was given the prestigious “Buffalo Heart Award” today by fans following the big win over K-State. Very, very nice.
And here is a direct lift from Colorado Daily:
Senior quarterback Cody Hawkins became the first in school history to throw for three scores in three consecutive games, and was instrumental in keeping drives alive. The Buffs converted nine of 14 third downs and Hawkins played a part in almost all of those conversions. Hawkins completed 14 of 25 passes for 202 yards, moving within 130 yards of becoming the Buffs’ all-time passing yardage leader. In his past two games, Hawkins has completed 30 of 49 passes for 468 yards and six touchdowns with no interceptions.
For the second week in a row, Hawkins brought the entire team together in a huddle between the third and fourth quarters and reminded his teammates to finish the game. CU would be bowl eligible today if not for an historic collapse in the fourth quarter three weeks ago. “This is the last quarter these seniors are ever going to have on this football field,” Hawkins quoted himself as saying. “Give it everything you’ve got and keep fighting.”
Colorado honored members of the senior class in a pregame ceremony and Hawkins was greeted on the field by members of his family, including former CU coach Dan Hawkins, who was fired two weeks ago. The ovation for Hawkins was the loudest of all the seniors and fans honored him again at the end of the game by presenting him with the Buffalo Heart Award.
He walked off Folsom Field for the final time after a game in which he played shaking hands and giving high-fives to fans lined against the railing still cheering for him. Read more: http://www.coloradodaily.com/ci_16663517?source=rss_viewed#ixzz15tZluaVW
