40 YRS AGO: 1969 Team Went 9-0

This fall marks the 40th Anniversary of Bishop Kelly’s first undefeated season, a 9-0 mark in regular season under Head Coach Chuck Forrestal. The Knights opened the campaign by knocking off Meridian, the only team to defeat BK the previous season. That 19-8 victory was one of two competitive contests for BK that season, the other being a 14-7 win over Vallivue in week five.1969 BK KnightsThe talented squad averaged 44.0 points per game, a school record that stood until 2004. BK beat Payette 95-0 that season and had other high scoring wins over Weiser (55-0) and Nyssa (51-0). Opponents scored just three touchdowns against the Knights the entire season. The season ended with a 49-8 win over Burley. There were only nine regular season games scheduled that year and no post-season playoff games were played. It was the final season for Coach Forrestal, who finished with a six-year mark of 45-10-0 (.818). More photos from the Forrestal Era can be seen here.
