FOOTBALL: Updates from the Collegiate Ranks

Carroll College advanced to the NAIA semi-finals with a rare forfeit win over Northwestern Oklahoma. Zach Thiry and the Fighting Saints are seeking their 6th national championship in seven years…Cody Hawkins and the Colorado Buffs lost at Nebraska so no bowling this year. He is close to 5,000 career yards passing

and threw his longest (68 yards) TD as a Buff, still short of the 94-yarder he tossed to Steve Tracy in 2004. That bicep tattoo — the numbers 64, 87 and 37 — honors teammates who were injured in preseason…

Things are tough all over, including Pittsburgh, where former BK head coach Tim Brennan’s West Mifflin Titans ended the season 2-7 in the nasty WPIAL….Remember that Central Catholic team from Portland that played here in August? They went 9-2 and made it to the Oregon 6A playoffs. And it was a ‘rebuilding year’ for the Rams. BK opens at Central next season….Head Coach Jack Parker led the East team to a 29-7 win in the East West Shrine Game… Tim Brady will play his final game as a Bronco this coming bowl season, but where? His away games with BSU have taken him to fields in Oregon, Washington, California, Arizona, Utah, Wyoming, Louisiana, Hawaii, Mississippi, Nevada, and New Mexico. New Orleans would be sweet, but a game in San Diego looks most likely.
