GERKE SIGNS WITH BSU: Franklin Road Pipeline Continues for Broncos

Boise State coaches can call the BK football program “the gift that keeps on giving” as Spencer Gerke becomes the latest Knight to head for Bronco Stadium. The Bishop Kelly lineman will sign his official Letter of Intent to become a Boise State Bronco today.  The 6-3, 245-pound senior will be joined by his parents, Bill and Lisa Gerke, and Head Coach Jack Parker as he signs.

Gerke, 17, is the youngest of three siblings. His sisters Abby and Genny were both outstanding student-athletes at BK, participating in basketball, cross country and track. Genny attends College of Idaho and Abby is a student at Boise State.

Spencer was an All-SIC and All-State lineman for Bishop Kelly during his senior year with the Knights in the fall of 2007. He committed to BSU in August — immediately and without hesitation — when Head Coach Chris Peterson offered a scholarship.

Gerke is the latest of many Knights to be lured to BSU by the persuasive recruiters of Bronco Nation and joins fellow BK football alums Cedric Febis (’06), Andy Silsby (’05), and Tim Brady (’04) on the current Bronco roster.  Tad Miller (’03) and Colt Brooks (’02) recently completed stellar careers at Boise State. Other notable Knights who spent their Saturdays playing for the blue-and-orange include Sky Dumont (’97), Erik Helgeson (’86), Terry Heffner (’86), and Mike Brady (’76). [Note: Although video tape was yet to be invented, there is some grainy, black-and-white film to confirm Mike Brady did play at Boise State.]
